With more than 3,000 years of history, Beijing boasts a wealth of cultural and historic treasures. Explore the city’s rich imperial past on a city tour, beginning at the Forbidden City, so named because it was off-limits to the world for over 500 years. Admire royal artefacts in the Palace Museum and cross the street to the famous Tiananmen Square, or "Gate of Heavenly Peace." Continue to the exquisite Summer Palace and enjoy the tranquil landscapes of elaborate bridges and pagodas surrounding Kunming Lake.
This morning we journey to China's best known attraction, the Great Wall of China. This sprawling defence system snakes its way 4000 miles across China's ever changing landscapes like an imperial dragon. We ascend the wall and climb the centuries old steps, admiring the sweeping landscapes of rugged mountains and valleys. Afterward we continue to the Sacred Way, a "divine road" leading to the Ming Tomb Museum, which rests at the foot of the scenic Tianshou Mountain. (Optional tour: Kung Fu Show £30pp)
Today we take a short flight from Beijing to Shanghai. Upon arrival in Shanghai we are transferred to our hotel and we can spend the rest of the day free to rest at the hotel or explore the city on our own.

Enjoying the dramatic skyline along the Huangpu River, we then board our coach and drive through the famous shopping district, Nanjing Road. Arriving next at the spectacular Shanghai Museum, which boasts the world's finest collection of ancient Chinese art and antiquities, we admire some of the 120,000 cultural relics.
